The National Research Council of Italy (CNR) successfully hosted the 2025–2026 edition of the “Laboratori di Sostenibilità” (Sustainability Laboratories) on 14 November in Parma, Italy, an educational initiative designed to engage students in the scientific and technological challenges of the Green Transition.
More than 600 undergraduate students from institutes across Parma took part in a day of hands-on activities and thematic workshops dedicated to key technological materials for sustainable innovation.
Among the featured sessions, the workshop “Materiali Magnetici Critici e per l’Energia” (Critical Magnetic Materials and for Energy) introduced students to the crucial role of magnetic materials in green technologies. Participants learned about the importance of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs), their applications in modern energy systems, and innovative approaches explored within ongoing European research projects.
As part of the program, the BEETHOVEN project was presented, highlighting its focus on developing novel magnetic materials and advanced solutions to support next-generation sustainable technologies. The project’s efforts to reduce dependence on critical materials and contribute to resilient and eco-friendly technological systems were emphasized as key elements of Europe’s broader green transition strategy.
The “Laboratori di Sostenibilità” initiative continues to create meaningful connections between scientific research and young learners, fostering awareness of the environmental, technological, and societal challenges driving the shift toward sustainable energy.
