Partners from STRATAGEM participated in the International Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) Conference held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 17 to 19 June 2026, bringing together researchers, industry representatives, and sustainability experts from around the world to discuss the latest developments in social sustainability assessment methodologies and applications.
During the conference, Mr. George Tsalidis, representing STRATAGEM, presented preliminary results from the BEETHOVEN project, highlighting the social sustainability dimensions of developing rare-earth-free permanent magnets for the European energy transition.
The presentation focused on the application of Social Life Cycle Assessment (s-LCA) methodologies to evaluate the potential social impacts associated with innovative magnet technologies that reduce dependence on critical raw materials. The work contributes to a broader understanding of how sustainable technological innovation can support not only environmental and economic objectives but also positive social outcomes across value chains.
The BEETHOVEN project aims to develop next-generation rare-earth-free magnetic materials and technologies, supporting Europe’s strategic autonomy, resilience of supply chains, and transition towards a more sustainable and competitive clean energy sector.
Participation in the conference provided an excellent opportunity to engage with the international s-LCA community, exchange knowledge with leading experts, and showcase the project’s progress in advancing socially responsible innovation for the European Green Deal objectives.
